Tail Clipper

Ever had a track end… and then just keep going? Then suddenly you're scrambling back to the decks because your cocktail or dinner playlist has been sitting in dead air for 30 seconds?

10 seconds of nothing. 30 seconds. Sometimes literal minutes of dead air just sitting on the end of the file for absolutely no reason.

That annoyed me, so I built Tail Clipper.

Drop in a music library and it scans the endings of your tracks, figures out where the music actually stops, and shows you what it thinks should go. You can listen to the proposed cut, hear the finished result, move the cut yourself, change where the fade starts, or tell it to leave the track alone.

Then clip one song or thousands of them.

Cut the dead air. Keep the music.

Tested in Serato on Windows 11.

What it does

🔍 Scans stupidly fast Tail Clipper only analyzes the part of the track it actually needs. On my real DJ library it chewed through thousands of songs at roughly 40–50 tracks a second.

🎧 Hear everything before you touch anything Tail Preview jumps straight to the ending so you can hear what Tail Clipper found. Preview Result lets you hear what the finished clip will actually sound like.

✂ Don't agree with the robot? Move it. Drag the cut point wherever you want. Drag the decrescendo point too. Reset puts everything right back where the analyzer originally had it.

🎚 Adaptive endings Tail Clipper doesn't just slap the same fade on every song. It looks at how the track actually ends and handles natural fades, soft endings, hard stops, and partial fades differently so the result doesn't sound like somebody attacked the waveform with garden shears.

🛟 Copy, Move, or Write in Place Copy mode is the nice safe default. All write modes are transactional, so Tail Clipper creates and validates the finished file before the original is ever replaced or removed.

🎛 Built around real DJ libraries Serato beatgrids, cues, loops, and other important DJ work are preserved where supported. Inherited grids are locked against Serato quietly re-analyzing them, and stale waveform/seek caches are allowed to regenerate instead of carrying bad data forward.

I tested this on actual decks, not just metadata parsers. Original and clipped tracks stayed locked together at +0.00%.

📁 Format support MP3, FLAC, and OGG have full trimming support.

M4A and WAV are handled conservatively when they contain DJ metadata Tail Clipper can't safely reproduce. Instead of gambling with your library, it refuses destructive operations when preservation can't be guaranteed.

🔒 Completely offline Your music stays on your computer. Tail Clipper doesn't upload your tracks, your metadata, or your library anywhere.

How hard did I test this thing?

The release candidate was run against my actual 4,306-track DJ library.

3,438 tracks trimmed. 868 correctly left alone. 0 processing failures. 185.5 minutes of dead air removed.

The processed library was then deep-audited against the originals for timing, metadata, grids, cues, and file integrity.

Because if I'm going to let a program loose on thousands of music files, I want considerably more evidence than "seems fine."

That said, this is still a beta and every music library is different. Results may vary. I strongly recommend using Copy mode until you've tested Tail Clipper on your own collection and trust what it's doing.

And if you find something weird, please report it. Weird files are how this thing got good in the first place.

Requirements

Windows 10/11, 64-bit About 400 MB of disk space No Node, FFmpeg install, or other developer nonsense required. Everything Tail Clipper needs is bundled.
